On behalf of the Ministries of Digital Economy and Youth Employment, TRUE organised Togo’s first ever Forum of Young Entrepreneurs.
The objective of the successful three-day forum, which is set to become an annual event, was to promote youth entrepreneurship across the nation.
Registration opened in June 2013; more than 2,000 young Togolese entrepreneurs applied and more than 300 were interviewed by the TRUE team in the country’s five main cities. The jury selected 10 finalists. Two ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ cash awards were given to teams working in grass-roots agricultural and technology sectors. All budding entrepreneurs were looking to boost entrepreneurial activity in different sectors of the Togolese economy.
TRUE gave them access to leads related to funding, marketing, partnerships and continuing business education. Accomplished entrepreneurs, accountants, lawyers, mentors, speakers and workshop leaders from all over the world led debates and training sessions in a hands-on format, with a stated focus on innovation as a driver of sustainable prosperity. Many partners were included in the process from the start, including local corporations, institutions, NGOs and the embassies of the United States and France.
